The trust that should exist between you and your wedding photographer will allow you to experience your wedding as an excited couple and let you leave your worries at the door.

All couples must weigh price and budget with the quality of the photography and the service a wedding photographer can provide, and while great wedding photography can be found within most budgets, the photographer’s price point and your budget should not be the determining factors in who you choose to document your special day. Tips for Finding the Right Photographer

As you embark on the journey of finding the right wedding photographer, consider the following tips:

• Understand Your Preferences: Take the time to understand your photography style preferences. Do you prefer a mainly documentary approach, lightly posed portraits, or a dramatically lit Vogue-style editorial look? When you're building your Pinterest inspo board, take time to look at the photos that resonate with you, and analyze the style. Also, don’t be afraid to share your inspo board(s) with your photographer. We all want to deliver images that you'll be proud of for years!

• Research: Look for photographers with a style that resonates with you. There are tons of good and great photographers out there, and there's a photographer for every couple at every price point.

• Introverted vs Extroverted Photographers: Very few in the industry will talk about this, but I believe it’s crucial to a stress-free wedding photography experience. Remember, of all your wedding vendors, you’ll be spending the most time around your wedding photographer, so if you’re an introvert, a loud, boisterous (extroverted) photographer may be very draining. Try to match your personality style to your photographer, and if you are unsure, I suggest erring toward the introverted photographer.

• Initial/Pre-Wedding Consultation: Schedule a pre-wedding consultation with potential photographers. This meeting allows you to gauge their personality, communication style, and how well you connect on a personal level. Don't overlook this step!

• Engagement Session: If you can’t quite decide, consider scheduling an engagement session as a test run. During an engagement session, you’ll find out how the photographer works, how they direct or pose, and you’ll break down any personal barriers to being in front of the camera. Some wedding photographers will apply the cost of an engagement session to a wedding package if you decide they’re a good fit. 

Finding a wedding photographer you connect with on a personal level is extremely important; it leads to a visual narrative that reflects the depth and beauty of your unique love story. Emotional connection, collaborative creativity, and open communication contribute to a positive and memorable photography experience. As a wedding photographer, my greatest joy is in building lasting connections and crafting visual stories that resonate for a lifetime.
